36-week baby bump!

Hello, friends. I thought it seemed about the right time for an update. Life has been busy and full of ups and downs lately. I can’t believe so many things in life can change in a split second right before your eyes, and you barely have time to see it coming. There’s a glimpse into how things have been lately.

First, I’ll talk about politics, but I’ll be very brief. I’m tired of hearing the name Trump and looking at his face. I never thought he’d last this long. Who’s with me?! Ugh, that’s all I have to say about this at the moment. Except I’m proud of what Obama is accomplishing with Cuba. And I want to meet the Obamas someday. That’s a new life goal.

Here’s a list of highlights and lowlights over the last many weeks.

  • I had a very nice baby shower at Wildfire Restaurant near the end of January with my family and friends. The food was delicious! We played Bingo, mingled, ate awesome food, and got some amazing presents for Baby. Everyone has been way too generous! Thanks to my mom for putting it together!

    Baby Shower at Wildfire!

  • Scott and I have slowly been able to have friends over at our new place over the past few months! Too bad we don’t have time for a housewarming party. Maybe after the baby is born.
  • I had another great baby shower a few weeks later with friends and Scott’s family! The decorations and room were adorable; it was a baseball theme! We played some games and ate some awesome baseball park-themed food. I think Baby is doomed to love baseball! Baby got some very nice gifts (except for maybe the Cardinals onesies!) from everyone. Thanks to Stacie, Maggie, and Ashley for throwing such a great shower!

    IMG_7770

Baby Shower! From left to right: Ashley, me, Stacie, Maggie, Barb, and Kendyl.

  • Scott and I had a small Super Bowl Party in early February with family. I made a lot of yummy appetizers and had some Super Bowl trivia for everyone. We played the squares game, too. Uncle Paul, Uncle John, Sydney, Grandpa, my mom, and Ray were able to come. It was a nice time! I liked Coldplay at halftime, too. My favorite commercial was the Doritos one with the dogs. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VW8PmhTcIJk
  • Sometime in February, I got locked in our half bathroom. The doorknob decided to stop working. I was having a panic attack since it’s a really small bathroom, but Scott was able to get me out. It wasn’t funny at the time, but it is now!
  • Scott and I went to McCormick & Schmick’s Restaurant for Valentine’s Day. They have really good lobster bisque soup! It was a nice evening with my hubby.

    IMG_20160213_213642183

    Flowers Scott sent to me!

  • Scott’s work threw a baby shower for us at Brick House Tavern! That was a really cool place; I’d like to go back sometime. It was great meeting everyone and it was really nice of them.
  • My coworkers threw a little shower for me over lunch last week. It was very nice! They gave Baby some very nice gifts. He is spoiled already. I was very surprised!

    Awesome cupcakes from coworkers!

  • On a sadder note, my grandpa passed away this past Saturday. But, I’ll write about that more in another post.

There’s my update for you. Now to go sleep! It’s late.

Day 746: Year in Review

Our first wedding anniversary. 🙂

2014 was a great year! There were many great times with family and friends and I have so much to be thankful for. Time really has flown by and I can’t believe 2014 is almost over. From family gatherings on weekends to a trip to Las Vegas, we did a lot this year! 2014 ending makes me sad in a way. Sorry, that was a long list! The toughest part of this year was losing my Aunt Carol in August. She was a very caring a special woman and I’m still having a hard time without her. I can’t imagine how her children, grandchildren, and husband must be feeling. But, we have definitely been there for each other through this difficult time. I miss her so much. It really hurts sometimes.

One great thing I was able to accomplish this year was that I finished scanning all of my mom and dad’s old photos. This project took years, and I’m finally done! I’m so glad we have all of them as digital copies. I should make 1,000 copies, just in case!

Overall, this year was a good one. I have so many wonderful people in my life and I’m glad I got to spend time with them. There were some changes this year, but I think they are for the better. I can’t wait to see what will happen in 2015! I think it will be a good year, too, especially since I have Scott and great family and friends to make memories with. Goodbye 2014, and welcome 2015!

Day 702: Christina’s Baby Shower

Rachel, Day by Day

Day 702: Christina's Baby Shower

My friend Christina is having a baby!! I went to her baby shower back in June; here’s a photo of her opening a present. It was a very nice shower! Christina and Wes are having a baby girl and they should be having the baby any day now. I can’t wait to meet their little one! I can’t wait to see what they name her, too.

The shower was nice; we ate some food, played games, watched Christina open presents, and ate some yummy dessert. It was great seeing Melissa and Brittany, too! I got Christina a baby bathtub that was adorable. It was cute seeing all of the adorable baby girl outfits; her baby will be dressed well! Here’s a photo of the four of us:

Day 702: Christina's Baby Shower

I had a great time! Now I just keep waiting for a phone call or text message from Christina or Wes. I’m antsy to meet this girl!! I’m sure there will be a blog post dedicated to her sometime soon. 🙂

In other news, Scott and I were cleaning out the garage a bit this morning. My allergies have been horrible this weekend, and they definitely didn’t help when cleaning out the garage. I sound like I have a cold at the moment! It must have been from all the dust in the garage. Ugh. But, it’s a good feeling to have it almost cleaned out!

Have a good afternoon!

Thank you all for an outstanding 2013 and I can’t wait to see what happens in 2014!

Day 671: December Updates

Rachel, Day by Day

Day 671: December Updates

Kendyl in her Christmas Concert.

Before I get to my year in review, I thought I’d update you on more fun things in December! Kendyl was in a Christmas Concert in the middle of December with her class, which consisted of very cute 3 and 4 year olds. They sang a few songs and then there was milk and cookies after the performance. She’s the one in the red dress with the Christmas tree. Everyone was adorable!

Scott and I headed up north the weekend before Christmas and got to spend extra time with family and friends. We got together with my mom’s best friend and her family! We ate some good Chinese food, exchanged gifts, and hung out. It was fun!

Family friends!

The next day, I met up with Christina, Melissa, and Brittany! We ate lunch at a really good restaurant called Mago Grill and Cantina. It was delicious! I ate a giant taco salad; the different salsas were amazing, too. We then went shopping for a bit. It was a really cold day and we were at an outdoor mall, so we didn’t shop for too long! It was great hanging out with them.

During the weekend after Christmas, I went to my friend Kim’s baby shower! We have been friends since middle school; I haven’t seen her in a while since she lives in Pennsylvania. She came to Illinois for Christmas, so her mom threw a baby shower, too. Click here to see my blog post about her wedding in 2010. It was great seeing her! I can’t believe many of my friends are having babies! I got to see Andrea, too, who is also pregnant! Kim is due in February and is having a boy. Her and Luke are naming him Trygve James after their grandfathers. Andrea is having a girl! Ahh, I can’t wait to meet all of these babies!

That same evening, I went to my Uncle Paul’s house and got to spend some more time with Aunt Rose, Uncle Joe, Marirose, Dominick, Uncle Paul, Aunt Carol, Sydney, Ray, and my mom! We ate dinner together, watched the Blackhawks, and played Screw Your Neighbor. Here are more photos for you!

It was great spending time with them! Sadly I only see my Aunt Rose and her family once a year since they living in Virginia. I’m glad I got to see them one more time before they flew home.

I also got to spend time with my grandpa and Uncle John over the weekend, which was great. I miss them a lot! It’s always a great time with them. 🙂

Well, those are some December updates for you! My next post will be the year in review. I promise!

Day 580: Favorite Holiday Song

Rachel, Day by Day

Capturing December: Day 15

Day 580: Favorite Holiday Song

Well, this is another photo of a photo, but that’s ok. I would say my favorite holiday song is Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas sung by Judy Garland. It brings me to tears almost every time I hear it. She sings so beautifully! If you want to listen to it, click here. Now I kind of want to watch Meet Me in Saint Louis! It is a great movie. Judy is so beautiful and I’ve always loved her voice. This song is just so beautiful in general.

I had a good day! I went to my cousin’s baby shower this morning and that was nice. I know so many people who are pregnant right now; it’s crazy! But awesome. I learned a lot about pregnancy today and things that are nice to have for newborns. I probably won’t remember any of it by the time I have children, though. I’ll just ask all the people who are currently pregnant! Libby looks so cute pregnant.

Scott and I are about to watch The Dark Knight Rises. I was pretty stressed out when I saw this first time; it’s intense! I kind of wanted to see it again and pay closer attention. Hopefully Bane won’t scare me as much this time.

Have a good Saturday night!

Day 453: Baby Shower

Rachel, Day by Day

Hello! My weekend was good. I spent some time with good friends, good food, good drinks, and good games. We played Scattergories, which I haven’t played in a really long time. I love it! The silly answers are the best, of course. It was a great time! As for the photo, I went to Nicole and Tommy’s baby shower on Sunday! Here’s a photo of them with all of their presents. Nicole is such a cute, pregnant girl! I can’t believe she is having a baby and I am so happy and excited for her! She is having a girl and they are naming her Eleanor. That’s a very cute name. I’m so excited to meet her; Nicole is due in February. The shower was at a really good Mexican restaurant; I definitely ate too many tacos and enchiladas. But it was worth it.

I didn’t do too much on Saturday. I spent most of my time at my apartment because I wasn’t feeling too well. I’m not sure if I had the flu or something, but I had the chills, a headache, and a stomach ache. I did leave the apartment for a bit because I REALLY wanted to see Beauty and the Beast in theaters. So, Scott and I went! I didn’t feel so great while walking, but felt fine once I sat down in the theater. I’m really glad I went; I love that movie! So, we went home and I was lazy again for the rest of the night. Although I wasn’t feeling well, it was nice to have a lazy day.

Scott and I did try making one fun thing on Saturday, though! Yogurt covered strawberries. Mmmmm. I don’t know if we did it right, but here’s a photo for you!

You basically dip strawberries in yogurt (I used Greek vanilla yogurt) and you let them sit in the freezer for a while. When you take them out, the yogurt should be hard, and you have a delicious snack! We tried them and at first, they were way too cold to enjoy. Then, I think we let them sit in room temperature too long because the yogurt wasn’t as hard anymore. They were still very good, though! I’m sure we’ll get it right next time. It’s a yummy and healthy snack!

Have a good night!

Day 3: Easter Eggs

Rachel, Day by Day

After all of the fun places my mom and I went to yesterday, we relaxed by coloring Easter eggs last night. We put them back in the refrigerator last night to dry, and this is how they looked this morning! Not bad, but not great.  There are a lot of random white dots and lines on them, which disappoints me a little. How do you avoid that? I’m guessing the white lines are because we used spoons to move them around in the liquid. My favorite is the greenish blue one. That’s probably my favorite color anyway, though. I can’t remember the last time I colored Easter eggs; it’s been quite a few years. It’s getting me more excited for Easter, though.  And it’s supposed to be a nice day tomorrow!

By the way, Wildfire is a great restaurant! I just got back from Michael and Vincentina’s baby shower there (friends of my family) and it is a very nice place. I’d like to go there again someday. I think there’s one in Champaign… I’ll have to look that up. I’m excited for Michael and Vincentina. I’ve known Michael since I was born and I can’t believe he’s going to be a father! He’s going to be a great dad, though.

Well, I’m off to my grandpa’s house! 🙂
