Day 504: Lamp

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Violet Day 7

I can’t believe it’s the last day of my color challenge! It’s been a good time. Here is the last violet photo for you: a close-up of a lamp. The petals are violet and I like how the flowers look here. This is Scott’s parents’ lamp; thanks for letting me take this photo! I think my mom has a lamp like this, too; they are very nice and pretty. They look good when the light is on, too. Yay for pretty violet flowers on lamps! My lamps don’t have any pretty colors on them, but they are still nice and silver. Yay light.

It’s been a good Sunday! I went to church with my family this morning and then we went out for a late lunch/early dinner. My mom and I drank some green beer together; it was fun. I guess I’m celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day this whole week! I’m good with that. I already had some corned beef this weekend and am hoping to have some more again! Mmmm. Yummy. I got to see my grandpa today, which was great! I miss him. And my mom and brother. Next time I see them it’ll be Easter!

Scott and I watched Selection Sunday with his family this afternoon. It was fun; I haven’t seen them in a while! Well, I didn’t really pay attention to the selections, but I’ll figure that out later. Scott and I watched Amazing Race tonight, too. I really can’t stand Rachel and Brendon who were on Big Brother before! She drives me nuts. She cried maybe 3 or 4 times about stupid stuff. I want to slap her a bit. I really liked the ending. DON’T READ IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED IT YET! It was very nice of Art and J.J. to give money to Mark and Bopper. I think right now I’m cheering for Mark and Bopper to win. They have a lot of catching up to do, though. I don’t think they are my favorite team, but they deserve the money the most. That’s just my opinion.

Happy Sunday night! And I finished the color challenge… Yay! I might take a break for a few days, unless I see an awesome photo opportunity!

Day 503: Parade

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Violet Day 6

I went to the Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Elmhurst today! Yes, they are a week early, but I don’t think they wanted to compete with the Chicago Saint Patrick’s Day parade. It was a beautiful day for a parade!! The sun was shining and the weather was great. It was hard finding something violet since everything was mostly green today, but I found this giant violet bow. I’m actually not sure what company was driving this car, but I’d like to thank them for giving us something violet.

The parade was fun! And I got to see Andrea for a bit! After the parade, I went back to a friend’s house (my mom’s best friend) and we hung out with some great people, drank, and ate good food. They have a really nice bar in their basement. I hope to have a bar like that in my home someday! We even had a Saint Patrick’s Day trivia contest. Scott won and got some Irish beer out of it! I had a great day. This weekend has been pretty darn awesome.

Don’t forget to move your clocks forward an hour tonight! I have mixed feelings about this. I don’t like losing an hour, but the days will be brighter! I’m excited for spring, flowers, and leaves on the trees again.

Day 502: Ice Cream

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Violet Day 5

Mmmm, I went to Coldstone with Tommy, Nicole, and Scott! I had chocolate ice cream with chunks of bananas. And, of course, some chocolate sauce on top. It was really good! Here’s some violet ice cream for you; I’m assuming it’s a grape or blueberry flavor? I can’t remember. It’s been a while since I went out for ice cream! We also went to a really good Mexican restaurant beforehand called Cilantro. I ate a veggie taco salad since it’s Lent. It was really good, too. Nicole drank a beer, her first since before pregnancy! I really miss hanging out with Tommy and Nicole. I wish I could see them more often; it was a good time.

For the main event, I met Tommy and Nicole’s baby Ellie!! She was born on February 15 and she’s adorable. Too bad she slept most of the time, but that’s basically what newborns do! Here’s a photo I got of Ellie:

Isn’t she adorable! I love her little outfit, too. This was one of the few moments with her eyes open! She’s so cute. It’ll be amazing seeing her grow up into a little woman!! Ahh, yay babies! Congrats to Nicole and Tommy again! I can’t wait to see the three of you again sometime soon.

Day 501: Money Counter

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Violet Day 4

I’ve had this awesome money counter thing since I was a little kid! I think this nickel section is considered violet. This definitely helped me sort my change. My family and I play a lot of games with change, so I used this a lot! I always loved dropping the coins in the little slot and I would hope to make it to the highest number ($2.00 on this one). The red side takes dimes and the blue side takes quarters. There used to be a chain that would go through all three and then I could lock it, but I lost that. I trust people not to take my change. Don’t even think about it!

It’s been an eventful day. We ate a pizza lunch as a department, which was a lot of fun! We should do that more often. Then, I had to pack up all my things at work and switch offices. I know I’ll get used to it, but I miss my old office! I think my new one is a bit bigger, though. It’s hard to tell. And I don’t have a tree right outside my window anymore, so my squirrel friend can’t visit. I’ll miss him! After work, I noticed a big gash in one of my tires and it was flat. Arrrggg!! My two friends from work, John and Steve, were nice enough to change my tire for me. Thank you again! And my wonderful friend Anne is driving me around a bit tomorrow while I get a new tire. Thanks, Anne! People are too nice to me. 🙂

I might go make cookies now. Mint chocolate chip. I’ll let you know how they turn out!

Day 500: Purple Pencil

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Violet Day 3

I can’t believe it! I made it to day 500!! I guess I should call it 500 Days of Rachel. Nah, I’ll keep it as Rachel, Day by Day. I’m proud of myself, though. It’s a big accomplishment. And, today I chose a violet photo that basically defines my life. I use this pencil at work occasionally for editing and marking up pages. I know pencils are a bit boring, but at least it’s violet! And I like how the photo turned out with the blurred pages in the background. I feel artsy. Good times.

I tried Seaboat for the first time ever today (thanks, Brendan and Anne!). We ate catfish (I hope I’m right about that), macaroni and cheese, and fries. Mmmm, it was really good. I might be ready to go back right now l. We also spent some time watching awesome youtube videos; Brendan showed us a live version of Radio Ga Ga by Queen. I had no idea, but that’s how Lady Gaga got her name! I learn something new every day. We had a great time.

I’m sad that Revenge isn’t on tonight, but I see a show called Revenge for Real is on. I’m assuming it’s a show about mysteries in the Hamptons? Well, I probably won’t watch it. It can’t be as good as Revenge! I’m not sure if I would ever go to the Hamptons after watching this show… I would have a hard time trusting anyone. Plus, I can’t really afford it, so I won’t worry about it.

I have that song We Are Young stuck in my head by Fun. It’s a very catching song. And I can’t believe there’s actually a band called Fun. I don’t really like it. It would be like if I started a band and called it Great. Kind of weird.

Happy Wednesday night!

Day 499: Bunny Towel

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Violet Day 2

Hello! My wonderful uncle game me these bunny towels for Christmas. I love them! They are hanging on the towel rack in one of my bathrooms. Maybe I’m supposed to have them out only for Easter, but I’ve kept them in my bathroom since Christmas and plan to keep them there! This bunny is so cute, too. I love how he’s (or she’s) sort of posing and the floppy ears are so cute, too! I also like how there’s a little snack in front of the bunny. And of course, the violet heart in the back that helps out my blog! It just shows my love for bunnies. Yay bunny towels!

I actually played tennis outside today. Can you believe it? It’s the beginning of March and above 60 degrees! I hope it stays like this for a while. It was nice spending some time outside again, too. Fresh air is always great. I’m excited to play more tennis and softball this spring and summer. They keep me active!!

I was thinking a while ago of starting another blog called Lindy’s Travels. My stuffed animal dog is Lindy (click here to see her) and I thought it would be funny to try writing her perspective on things. But, I don’t know if I travel enough to do this! I guess she wouldn’t be able to write every day, and I can still count going out of town as travels. What do you think? Two blogs might be a lot, though. This one is already a lot of work since I’m writing every day! Let me know what you think. Go ahead and comment!!

Day 498: Candle

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Violet Day 1

It’s my last week of the color challenge! Can you believe it? Here is a nice violet candle at my apartment. Scott’s sister gave it to me last year for my birthday. It’s very pretty! It’s a great spring color; I’ll have to put it back on my coffee table when it’s warmer. I’m tempted to light a few candles right now since I haven’t in a while! Do you light candles very often? I really should since I like how they look and smell. It makes a room more homey.

I’m going to write about something I swore I would never write about. Love. I always thought it would be lame and silly to constantly write about love and my fiancé, but it is my blog and I have the right to type about this occasionally. I won’t do it all the time, I promise! Maybe once a year.

I’ve learned a lot these past few years about love. If you asked me about this topic three or four years ago, I would have had very different thoughts. I honestly had a hard time seeing myself married back then and I really didn’t believe in love. I didn’t think marriage was in my future at all. I guess I didn’t really know what love meant until I met Scott (sorry if you just rolled your eyes).

I think the little happy and funny moments are the best, and Scott and I have many of those. He does so many things that make me smile. Sometimes I smile at work or at my apartment just thinking about things he’s done in the past. He is definitely one of the kindest and funniest people I’ve ever met. I never thought I could feel this way. We make each other laugh, which of course, is the key to happiness. 🙂 I know we aren’t perfect people; there are probably many things I do that drive him crazy and will drive him more crazy in the future. But, love is being able to put up with these things and work through them. And I think we can and will.

There’s something else I want to mention for all the single people who read this (if there are any). Don’t doubt that you will find someone. And be patient; sometimes it takes a while to find the right person. But when you do, it will be amazing. Go ask someone out right now! You have to date a bit to find the right person. And just because you end up dating the wrong guy or girl doesn’t mean it was a total mistake. You can learn from relationships.

I’m a lucky person. And that’s all I will say about that. Enjoy your Monday night!

Day 497: Cat Brush

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Indigo Day 7

I am so proud of myself for making it through indigo week. Yay!! This isn’t the most exciting photo, but here is a cat brush for you. The cat on the tag looks happy and relaxed; I bet it was because of this brush. Maybe I should buy it for myself. I like how the end of the brush has a heart; it must mean you love your cat. How often are you supposed to brush a cat? This wouldn’t be good for my allergies. I’m guessing cats shed a lot after being brushed. Oh well. I’m not sure what to say about this brush anymore!

I’ve been working on a little project lately. Well, it really isn’t that little. I borrowed four big photo albums from my mom and my plan is to scan all (or most) of our family photos. There are way more than four photo albums, but that’s what I thought I’d start with! I would like to keep all of the photos for myself, and scanning them onto my computer seems like the best way to go! This is going to take a while, though. It took me a couple of days to get through one photo album, and my mom has a lot! At least I don’t have to rush with it; I can take my time. I can easily send some family members old photos, too. I just think it would be great to have all of these photos. I don’t want to lose such wonderful memories.

By the way, I just made some Shamrock Shakes for Scott and me. They turned out really well! I found a great and easy recipe online; if you want it, I can send it to you. Here’s a photo of the yummy shakes:

Yum! Also, Amazing Race is on! Go watch it!

Day 496: Western Bowl

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Indigo Day 6

Hello! Saturday was a fun-filled day! We had a work bowling get-together at Western Bowl and it was a lot of fun. I’m not that great at bowling, but I’m proud of my scores. I got 98 one game and 102 for the other. I was happy I got over 100! Woo! We had a great time cheering each other on and eating pizza. It was a fun event for a Saturday afternoon. Here’s a photo of the bowling alley; I thought the Western Bowl sign looked indigo. Why don’t I go bowling that often? I really want to mini golf this summer, too. Who’s with me?!

I had a great Saturday night! We had a fancy work happy hour at Radio Maria and it was delicious. Scott and I shared broiled goat cheese, grilled calamari, wild mushroom crostini, and grilled vegetable arepa. Mmmm, I’m hungry again just thinking about these tapas! I drank a good mai tai, too. I wore a pretty purple dress I bought a little while ago and felt very fancy. We then went to Boltini and Esquire for a few more drinks. I tried a pineapple gimlet at Boltini and it was good. It was great chatting outside of work! Yay Saturdays!!

Day 495: Blanket

Rachel, Day by Day

Color Challenge: Indigo Day 5

This is my favorite blanket in the world!! I think the tips must be indigo. Why do I have to keep convincing myself that there’s indigo somewhere in my photos? Ok, I’ll stop now. My wonderful friend, Melissa, made this blanket for me back in 2006. Wow, that was a while ago now! She put photos of my friends and me on the blanket, too. She’s so creative! I sleep with this blanket every night; it’s so nice and warm! I love it a lot. Everyone should have a blanket like this; it’s a necessity in life. I might go grab it now actually!

It is so windy and cold outside today! Scott and I are having a nice night in right now. Have you seen the show Chopped? We are watching the $50,000 tournament right now. We ate some yummy tilapia for dinner, too and are drinking some nice wine. I’m a lucky girl. 🙂

Tomorrow will be an exciting and eventful day, so stay tuned!
