Day 677: Double Take Grandma and Grandpa

Photo on left: Taken in 1948.
Photo on right: Taken in 2005.

It’s time for another double take! Here are my wonderful grandparents, John and Jean. These photos are 57 years apart. Isn’t that incredible? For the photo on the left, I think they were going to a wedding together back in 1948. They were dating at the time since they didn’t get married until 1951. I love this photo; my grandma looks so beautiful and I love her hat! My grandpa is very handsome, too. He looks awesome in his sunglasses. I love the old car in the background, too.

For the photo on the right, we were all celebrating the new year (2005) at my mom’s house. Look how cute they look 57 years later! I always loved hearing my grandpa talk about how he was courting my grandma. Those stories are priceless.

This blog post is dedicated to my grandma. Today would have been her 87th birthday. I miss her every day, as do all my other family members. She was a wonderful woman. Every time someone calls me Rach, I think of her. She was one of the few people to call me that. I loved sleepovers at my grandparents house growing up and I loved our games nights. We even bought my grandma and automatic card shuffler one year since she had a hard time with it. Such good times!

I promise to update again soon!

Day 675: Double Take Rachel and Pirate

Day 675: Double Take Rachel and Pirate

Photo on left: Taken in 2004.
Photo on right: Taken in 2013.

Well, I thought this double take was pretty cool. I’m not even sure how I found this! These photos were taken at Wisconsin Dells. This pirate is at Pirates Cove Adventure Golf. It kind of makes sense that we have two of these photos; my family and I love mini golf! It’s funny that I’m doing the same thing in both photos, though… touching the pirate’s leg. It kind of weirds me out a little but, but oh well!

For the photo on the left, my family went to Wisconsin Dells in August of 2004. We went on the trip right before I started college. I was probably nervous and excited about the new change coming up in my life. Gosh, it’s strange thinking about how different I was back then! A young, naive girl. A lot happens in 9 years!

For the photo on the right, my family, Scott, and I went back to the Dells in August of 2013. This was pretty recent! We stayed at a condo at Wilderness Resort and it was beautiful. Click here to read more about the trip. My family doesn’t live too far from the Dells, so we went a lot when I was younger. Plus, water parks are awesome! I love this place.

I do look a bit different in the photos; my face is a bit younger in the photo on the left. I look happier in the second photo, which is good! The pirate looks the same after all these years! He does have more scratches now and the color on him might be fading. He is still looking good, though.

Well, that’s it! Hope you enjoyed it.

Day 668: Double Take Kacich Family

Day 668: Double Take Kacich Family

Kacich Family from left to right top row: John, Patrick, Janet, and Tom
Bottom row: Grandpa and Grandma (John and Jean)
Photo on left: Taken in 1991 or 1992.
Photo on right: Taken in 2009.

I thought I’d try to fit in another Double Take before Christmas! This happens to be one of my favorites. Here’s the Kacich Family, which is my mom’s side of my family. If you know me, you probably already knew that! Anyway, I love the fact that everyone is in the exact same spot in both photos. My Uncle Tom (on the right) is even doing the same thing with his hands! These are great photos. And these photos are 17 or 18 years apart.

For the photo on the left, this was taken in 1991 or 1992 in our backyard. It was hard figuring out the year, but I noticed my Uncle Tom was wearing a Bulls championship t-shirt, so that helped! We lived in Hillside, Illinois at this time. I’m not exactly sure why we all got together that day; maybe it was Mother’s Day? If that’s correct, then both of these photos are from Mother’s Day! That would be awesome. Or maybe it was Father’s Day? Who knows. I think everyone pretty much looks the same, except a bit older. My Grandpa does! My mom’s hair looks really different, though! That was when she liked getting perms. Uncle John and Uncle Pat pretty much look the same, while Uncle Tom has whiter hair now! Grandma looks the same; just a bit thinner in the second photo.

For the photo on the right, we all got together for Mother’s Day on May 10, 2009. We were at our house in Elmhurst. We took a lot of photos with Grandma, including grandkid ones. It was a beautiful day; we were outside most of the time and I remember playing Red Light, Green Light with the kids. Sadly, this was the last photo of my grandparents and their kids above. My grandma died the next month; this was the last time I saw her, too. It was a fun day, so I’m happy my last memory of her was a great one. I miss her a lot. And my Uncle Pat.

OK, I’ll stop being emotional now. But, this is seriously one of my favorite Double Takes. And I really wanted to share it with you.

I’m excited for Christmas Eve tomorrow! I’ll write more after the holidays. πŸ™‚

Day 667: Double Take College Friends

Photo on left: Taken on October 28, 2006. From left to right: Me, Melissa, Christina, Brittany.
Photo on right: Taken on February 18, 2012. From left to right: Me, Melissa, Brittany, Christina.

Ladies and gentlemen, Double Take is back! Sorry the photos are a bit small, but here are my wonderful college friends! The photo on the left was taken at our college apartment before going out! I think we went to The Highdive in Champaign that night for some dancing. I remember because lots of people were dressed up in costumes being close to Halloween. We weren’t really into Halloween during college. So, this was a little over 7 years ago. Crazy! And these photos are 5 years and almost 4 months apart. We have definitely changed a lot since college! I don’t really wear tank tops in October anymore. It’s crazy how young we look compared to now, too. I look completely different with the curly to straight hair! My hair is curly most of the time now, though. But my hair back then was really blonde compared to now.

I keep looking at the differences in our hairdos. When I look at Melissa, I notice she has the same hairdo and smile in both photos! Brittany has the same hair; it’s just a bit shorter now. Christina’s hair is mainly to the right side in both photos, too! We haven’t really changed our hair much; we just look older (and hopefully more mature) now.

For the photo on the right, we were celebrating Christina’s birthday at Melissa’s house! It was a fun party. Maybe it’ll happen again in 2014…? πŸ™‚ We were posing by Melissa’s fireplace. I think we also took a photo with prom poses, too. Yes, we are still silly occasionally.

I’m really glad the four of us still remain close friends; I always hear about how people lose touch after college, but we haven’t! In fact, we are all getting together next week and I’m excited about it! I love these girls so much and can’t wait for more fun times in the future.

Day 660: Double Take Uncles and Me

Day 660: Double Take Uncles and Me

Photo on left: Taken December 25, 1991.
Photo on right: Taken December 25, 2007.

Hello again! Time for another double take. For the photo on the left, this was at my grandpa’s house on Christmas day in 1991. My Uncle Pat is on the left, Uncle John is on the right, and they are holding me up in the middle. I actually remember this moment; I was only 5 years old. I felt so tall being that high! I’m not sure why they decided to lift me up, but that’s ok! I probably loved it at the time. Dang, I miss my childhood. It was so great. I miss my Uncle Pat, too. A LOT.

For the photo on the right, Uncle Pat and Uncle John are switched, but we are at my grandpa’s house on Christmas 16 years later. You can even see the same wallpaper in both photos! This was taken in 2007; I can’t believe that was 7 years ago now. My uncles definitely couldn’t lift me up anymore! I look a lot different after 16 years, but they pretty much look the same. They aren’t wearing their awesome Christmas sweaters, though! I loved and still love being at my grandparent’s house around Christmas. It’s always been a nice, warm, loving feeling.

Speaking of Christmas, we put our tree up last night! Is that too early? If you say yes, I don’t care! I’m in the holiday spirit already! Exclamation points everywhere!!!

Goodnight, everyone!

Day 658: Double Take Scott and Granny

Double Take

Photo on left: Taken in 1985.
Photo on right: Taken in 2007.

A lot can change in 22 years! For the photo on the left, Scott must have been very young, just a few months old or less. His grandma (we all call her Granny) is holding him in the photo. I love how he’s looking at her and smiling! It’s an adorable photo. She looks like a proud grandma, too.

And 22 years later, in the photo on the right, Scott and Granny are posing for a photo at Scott’s college graduation in 2007. I like how they are sort of looking at each other again, almost like the photo on the left. It’s crazy how much we grow in 22 years. Scott is a lot taller than Granny and she definitely can’t hold him anymore! It is amazing to watch a person grow from birth to adulthood. I always think about that with my little cousins and smile.

And there’s another double take for you! There are plenty more to come. Thanks for reading! Comments are always welcome. πŸ™‚

Day 656: Double Take Renee and Me

Double Take

Day 656: Double Take Renee and Me

Left photo: Taken in 2001.
Right photo: Taken in 2013.

Wow, my friendship with Renee has been going on for 13 years! We met back in 2000 when we started high school. We both joined the tennis team and played the flute, so we instantly connected through those things and became friends! The photo on the left was taken in 2001, so these photos are 12 years apart. I’m pretty sure we were having fun trying on dresses at a store in Yorktown Mall. Look how young we look! We look too young to be in high school. I look a bit ridiculous in that photo with my bra straps showing and my eyes closed, but that’s ok. We used to try on dresses a lot in high school, just for fun and to feel pretty. We’d eat at the food court, too. Fun times! I remember during school, Renee and I would pass a notebook back and forth and write notes to each other about boys and things. I wonder if we still have that somewhere! We used that so teachers would think we were taking notes in class. I miss the days when I’d see her every day!

The photo on the right was taken on my wedding day of the two of us. Renee was a bridesmaid! She flew all the way from Paris for the occasion. We definitely look different, older, and hopefully wiser. πŸ™‚ Renee came to town a week before the wedding and she was able to come to the bachelorette party! I was extremely happy about that. It was great seeing her. And I’ll be visiting her in Paris soon!!

Over these past 13 years, we’ve gone through lots of happy and sad times together, and we were always there for each other. When my dad was sick and then when he died, she was always there for me when I needed her. I’ll never forget that. That’s a real friendship! We went through driver’s education class together, graduations, tennis matches, band concerts, silly crushes on boys, dances, and so much more! I don’t know how to thank her for all the fun times we’ve had. I love you, Renee!

Photo on right, from left to right: Bob, Emily, Matt, Rachel, Ray, and Grandpa in the middle. Taken in 2012.

Well, I tried making these photos bigger, but I had some difficulty! I hope you can see them. I wish we were in the same positions in both of these photos, but that’s ok! Here are two photos, 10 years apart, of my grandpa and his five grandkids.

For the photo on the left, I’m not sure if we got together for a holiday or just because we wanted to! This was taken in 2002 at my Uncle Tom’s house. This was probably taken the summer before I started my junior year of high school. I had giant hair at the time and didn’t do much to fix it! I love how Ray is wearing an Illinois t-shirt; thanks for supporting my school! Bob looks so young in this photo, and both he and Matt are clean-shaven! We haven’t seen that in a while. And it’s weird; I don’t see Emily wear glasses that often, but she’s wearing them in both photos! I think she was pregnant with her daughter Julia at this time, and now Julia is a beautiful 10-year-old kid. Wow, time flies! Grandpa looks pretty much the same in both of these photos. He even has the same smile. πŸ™‚ It’s crazy to think how much we all changed in 10 years.

For the photo on the right, this was taken on my Grandpa’s 85th birthday, which was in September of 2012. We all went out to dinner for the special occasion and then hung out at my mom’s house. Between 2002 and 2012, at least one of us in these photos has graduated high school, graduated college, had some beautiful children, bought a house, got married, got their first job, moved away from home, celebrated over 50 years of marriage, had great-grandchildren, and much more! I would keep naming things, but we’d here a while.

I love my familly! πŸ™‚

Day 653: Double Take Scott and Stacie

Rachel, Day by Day

Double Take

Day 653: Double Take Scott and Stacie

Photo on left: Taken in the spring of 1987.
Photo on right: Taken in spring of 2003.

Hello there! Neither of these photos are super recent, but I wanted to use both of them. πŸ™‚ Here’s how Scott and Stacie have changed in 16 years! For the photo on the left, ScottΒ  was only 1 year old (about to turn 2) and Stacie was 4 (close to turning 5 years old). I think a friend of theirs took this photo; it looks very professional! They look so cute in their matching outfits. Gosh, I think Caden (Stacie’s son) looks like her in the photo on the left! Scott’s mom told me both Scott and Stacie hated wearing matching outfits, but isn’t it fun looking back on these kind of photos?? They are so cute!

For the photo on the right, that was taken on Scott’s high school graduation day. He was 17 at the time and Stacie was 20. This photo was taken 10 years ago. Crazy! Maybe I should have added a third photo of them now. You can tell it’s them in the left photo, but they’ve definitely grown! I think Stacie looks the same from this 10-year-old photo on the right. I’ll just have to do this double take again and use a more recent photo of them!

I’m having too much fun with this double take project!

Day 651: Double Take Three of Us

Rachel, Day by Day

Double Take

Day 651: Double Take Three of Us

Photo on left: Taken in December of 1994.
Photo on right: Taken in April of 2011.

Here we are, the three of us. In both of these photos, my brother is on the left, I’m in the middle, and my mom is on the right. I like how we are all positioned in the same way. These photos are more than 17 years apart! For the photo on the left, we were celebrating my mom’s birthday. We probably went out to dinner and then ate cupcakes back at the house. So, of course my mom had to get a photo with her two little kids! Gosh, I was 8 years old at the time. Look at the phone behind us! That was when they had long cords and we didn’t have caller ID yet in the house. We never knew who was calling back then! Anyway, I’m sure my dad took this photo, or maybe one of my grandparents. My mom has the same pretty smile in both photos. πŸ™‚ But Ray and I look completely different! I used to have trouble keeping my eyes open in photos.

For the photo on the right, we were at Drury Lane enjoying an Easter brunch. We went with my Grandpa and Uncle John, too. Their brunch was huge; we enjoyed eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, crab cakes, shrimp, meat carving stations, fruit, pastas, a dessert section, and so much more! I definitely remember being full after that. I like taking photos with my family when we are dressed up, so we had to get this one. I think I got my photo with the Easter bunny earlier, too. Good times!

Anyway, I just wanted to show how the three of us have changed over the years. We were a close family back then and we definitely still are now. I don’t know what I’d do without my brother and mom. They mean the world to me and I’m lucky to have them in my lives. I love you both!
